Medicare rebates for osteopathy, am I covered?

Osteopathic services may be available for a Medicare subsidy on up to a total of five allied health appointmrnts per year under a Medicare Team Care Arrangment, organised by your GP.

How does it work?
If you have a chronic health condition (e.g. arthritis, chronic back pain, headaches/migraines, bursitis, or rotator cuff injuries) that have been impacting you for several months- then you may be eligible for a team care arrangement from your GP. The agreement involves your GP and other allied health professionals, such as an osteopath, to work together to assist in managing your pain and help you to achieve your goals. If you are approved, you can receive a rebate from Medicare for part of the treatment costs.

How do I get one?
If you have a condition which has been causing you pain for months, have a chat with your GP as they may be able to assist you in receiving a team care arrangement. Approval may be dependent on how long your condition has been going on for, and who your GP thinks can provide the best care in your situation.

I have received a team care arrangement, what do I do now?
If you have a team care arrangement, please let our reception team know at the time of your booking. Sometimes your GP clinic will send us the paperwork directly, alteratively they will give to you to bring along to your appointment. This paperwork is needed to ensure that we can invoice you and process the rebate at the time of your appointment. If we do not have the paperwork on the day of your appointment, we can not process your rebate. As part of the arrangement, your osteopath will correspond with your GP after the first and last visit of your plan, to discuss how your condition is progressing and what management strategies are being used.

Please note that this advice is general in nature and eligibility will depend on your situation and GP. Medicare only provides a partial rebate, and there are still out of pocket costs when receiving treatment under a Medicare health referral. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the clinic on 5977-0466 for further assistance or to make an appointment.
