Paediatric Osteopathy for Babies in Mornington

Welcoming a new baby is an exciting time — but it can also come with challenges. At Bayside Osteopathic Clinic in Mornington, we provide gentle, safe and experienced osteopathic care for newborns, babies and young children across the Mornington Peninsula.

Our paediatric osteopaths focus on supporting your baby’s comfort, development and overall wellbeing using calm and the lighest of techniques tailored specifically for infants.

How Can Osteopathy Help Babies?

Birth — whether vaginal or caesarean — places physical stress on a baby’s head, neck and body. Even straightforward births can involve compression, rotation and tension.

Paediatric osteopathy may assist with:

  • Colic and unsettled behaviour

  • Reflux and digestive discomfort

  • Feeding or latching difficulties

  • Head preference or torticollis

  • Flat head (positional plagiocephaly)

  • Sleep disturbances

  • General tension or irritability

Our goal is to gently assess and address areas of restriction that may be contributing to discomfort.

We treat babies and children using only the lightest of Osteopathic techniques, and there are very few documented cases of any significant risks or adverse effects associated with this type of treatment. If a baby is more comfortable s/he can be treated in her/ his parents arms or whilst feeding. Babies tend to enjoy getting treated and quite often fall asleep while being worked on.

Osteopaths Dr Kate MurphyDr Denise Cornall and Dr Khali Williams have done further training in Paediatric Osteopathy.

Is Osteopathy Safe for Newborns?

Yes. Paediatric osteopathy uses extremely gentle, age-appropriate techniques. We carefully adapt every treatment to suit your baby’s size, stage of development and comfort.

If your baby is under medical care, we work collaboratively with your GP, maternal health nurse, paediatrician or lactation consultant where appropriate.

Supporting Development in the Early Months

The early months of life are a time of rapid growth and neurological development. Addressing musculoskeletal tension early may help:

  • Improve symmetry and head movement

  • Support feeding comfort

  • Encourage easier tummy time

  • Promote relaxed settling and sleep

We are passionate about supporting babies and families through this important stage of development.
