Osteopathy during Pregnancy

Dr Kate Murphy has recently joined the team at Bayside Osteopathic Clinic. She has a special interest in supporting women throughout their pregnancy and beyond and also looking after their babies, children and extended families.

At Bayside Osteopathic Clinic we have many pregnant women and new mum’s as patients. Osteopathy is a safe and gentle treatment modality that can be used throughout your entire pregnancy to treat many issues that may arise. It also helps to maintain optimum body function during this important and exciting time.

Some of the common conditions pregnant women come to see us for are…

  • Low back and pelvic pain
  • Postural tightness, neck pain and/or headaches
  • Swelling of the ankles – lymphoedema
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome – deadness or tingling in the hands often worse at night
  • Tightness or pain around the ribcage as baby grows
  • And many more…

Treatment is safe and gentle for your baby. The experience to your baby is pleasant, calming and safe. As you might gently rock them in your womb during your daily walk, treatment is a soothing and comfortable experience for them too!

In addition to treatment we can also provide advice on ongoing rehabilitation and lifestyle modifications to best benefit you during your pregnancy. This may be in the form of home-exercises, pelvic support belts or working in conjunction with your Pilates, yoga or exercise practitioner.

What about afterwards? Post partum treatment can assist your body in the transition from pregnancy to motherhood. New mums may have residual pelvic or low back pain, postural tightness as they get used to feeding their baby or wrist and arm pain from all that cuddling! We can also assist with pelvic floor rehab post partum or refer you on to a more qualified practitioner if needed.

Make an appointment today. We are waiting to support you through your pre and post natal journey!
