Some useful information on booking, our practice, resources and FAQS

SOME GENERAL

PATIENT INFORMATION

At Bayside Osteopathic Clinic we send a text reminder the day prior (Monday appointments sent Saturday) to your appointment to give you the opportunity to confirm, cancel or reschedule your appointment. We often have patients on a waiting list for cancellations, so if you are unable to attend for an appointment, please let us know the day prior so that we can fill the appointment. If an appointment is not cancelled by 5pm day prior to the appointment, we reserve the right to charge a 50% missed appointment fee for individual consultations and $10 missed appointment fee for exercise group classes.

We understand that there are times when you might need to cancel your appointment on the day due to illness, emergencies or obligations for work or family. We still ask that you call to cancel, even if last minute, as you may be preventing another patient getting a much needed treatment. In such cases we do not charge a cancellation fee as long as the appointment is rescheduled.

Scheduled Appointments

We understand that delays can happen. We do appreciate a call to let us know if you are running late. If a patient is 10 minutes past their scheduled appointment time, we may have to reschedule the appointment. If an appointment is not rescheduled, we reserve the right to charge a 50% missed appointment fee.
If you cannot get an appointment with your preferred practitioner, please ask about our cancellation list. If an appointment comes up, we will call you.

SOME

FAQ’s

How many Osteopathic treatments will I need?

This will vary with individuals. However most common problems will show significant improvement within 3-4 treatments. If a problem does not appear to be responding within this time frame, we will fully reassess you, modify your treatment and management programme if necessary, or refer for further tests or alternative treatment if needed.

Is Osteopathy available on Medicare?

Osteopathic services may be available for a limited number of treatments per year under Medicare Allied Health Initiative Enhanced Primary Care Plan.  This may be available to you if you have a chronic condition (usually one that has persisted for 6 months or more) and have a GP referral.   Medicare rebates are also available for spinal x-rays ordered by your Osteopath.

Am I eligible for Osteopathy under TAC, WorkCover and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs?

Yes, Osteopaths are recognised providers under these third parties.  You will only need a GP referral for Osteopathy under the Veterans Affairs scheme. For more information call reception to discuss how you could benefit under these schemes, if appropriate to you.

Can I be treated if I am pregnant?

Back pain in pregnancy can be treated with Osteopathy. Osteopathy can help pregnant mothers to not only reduce their back pain, but also to improve core stability and improve fluid drainage to alleviate the carpal tunnel syndromes and swollen ankles which are commonly experienced by expecting mothers. For more information check out our patient information page.

Do I need a GP referral for Osteopathy?

No, only for treatment under the Medicare Allied Health and the Veterans’ Affairs schemes.  Please call reception to discuss this further.

Is osteopathy safe for all ages?

There is no such thing as a 100% safe form of medical treatment. Even painkillers sold in supermarkets can have serious side effects in some people. Some serious side effects such as disc injury and fracture have been associated with some osteopathic techniques if they are used when not appropriate. However, the risk is extremely low. In general, Osteopathy has a very good safety record, and at Bayside Osteopathic Clinic we always use the lowest risk techniques to achieve the desired clinical result. If we need to use a technique that has a higher risk, we will explain the risks to you so that you can give informed consent, and of course you are entitled to refuse consent for the use of any technique at any time.

Do I need to bring my x-rays, scans or other test results?

If you have recent x-rays, scans or test reports it would be beneficial to bring them in to give us the most up to date information. If there are positive findings it will assist us in giving you the most suitable treatment and management programme.

Can I claim for Osteopathy on Private Health Insurance?

Osteopathy can usually be claimed under private health insurance if you have extras cover on your policy. If in doubt call your insurer. The Clinic has HICAPS for direct rebate claims.
